News in English: Sri Sri Ravi Shankar appointed to attack AAP

Finally the sant and mahants (saints) are being called in to curb the rising influence of Aam Aadmi.

If the Aam aadmi finally rises, who will care for the Gurus and sants who have ruled the roost for centuries feeding into the fear and ignorance of the Aam aadmi. Arvind Kejriwal ought to put on top of AAP’s manifesto an agenda to root out the blind faith in the fraudulent Gurus and impart the scientific knowledge and temperament in the masses. Be that as it may, we now have Sri Sri Ravi Shankar training his guns at AAP and Kejriwal. His article published in Hindustan times on 3rd April does not mince words:

If AAP is voted for a role in national politics and if Kejriwal does what he did in Delhi, it will be an absolute disaster for the country.India cannot afford to take such a risk when the country is on a ventilator with most economic parameters vulnerably placed. We need a stable government at the Centre to put our economy back on track and spur development.

Sri Sri goes on to say:

By doing this, Kejriwal showed himself to be no different from other politicians — the hidden ambition and agenda came to the forefront. Cheap publicity stunts, self-contradiction, over-ambition and autocracy tarnished the positive image of AAP and soon many respectable people became disillusioned and left the party. Now Kejriwal says that he is okay with a fractured mandate in this election and mid-term polls in two years’ time. This indicates a very callous attitude towards the nation’s economy and security.

What appears to have irked Sri Sri the most is Kejriwal’s trip to Gujarat sometime back where he openly criticized Modi. Modi being one of his favorites, Shri Shri had to come in Modi’s defense.
He visited Gujarat for four days and hurled criticism without any basis at the state’s development. I have travelled through the length and breadth of Gujarat over the years. In the 1990s and early 2000s, to see a tree in Saurashtra was a rarity. It was so drought-prone that people had to sell their cattle often. But today there is greenery everywhere. Electricity supply was scarce — hardly two hours a day. Today there is water and electricity in almost every village and the per capita income has risen. While Gujarat may not be 100% corruption-free, I have no hesitation in saying that it is much better than what it used to be. Instead of being honest with facts, Kejriwal has chosen to put down BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on flimsy grounds.

We won’t go into the merits of his claims vis-a-vis Gujarat, they have been debunked again and again across various forums. However what is sure is that Sri Sri is very clear about his choice for the Prime Ministerial candidate. A Hindu spiritual leader comes out in open support of Modi and opposes the new born Aam Aadmi Party which he believes is going to be game changer. On the other hand, Imam Bukhari’s support to Congress (we DO NOT approve of it at all) has been made to appear as the greatest divisive and communal act. On 21st February, according to a VHP press release, over 15,000 ‘sants’ (holy men) decided to campaign for the BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi across the country, in the run-up to 2014 elections.

In the meeting the ‘sants’ outlined the public awareness programmes keeping in mind the 2014 general elections for Lok Sabha. Jagadgurus, Mahamandaleshwars, Sant-Mahants – all under the auspices of this movement would reach out to every voter in the electoral fields right down to the block development areas to make them watchful and exercise crucial interests in the nation and the national society.

So we will have Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and another 15000 Jagadgurus, Mahamandaleshwars, Sant-Mahants practicing a new Art of living i.e. How to appeal to the Hindu voter and promote Modi and his crony capitalists on one hand and oppose the Aam Aadmi on the other hand. Is Paresh Rawal, BJP’s candidate from Ahmedabad, listening? Oh My God!
